Pots on the wheel.

I am mainly inspired by the rhythms and patterns found in nature, such as tidal patterns and movement, rock strata and growth.
I like to use local clays and sands mixed with porcelain to enhance the natural beauty of the clay.

Hand built pieces.

I am inspired by the work of Charles Renne Mackintosh and the slip trailing technique of Moorcroft Pottery. I enjoy mixing the two to give sharp edges and strong Art Nouveau patterns. I like to use slip trailing in a more free style way too, to produce one off wall and window plates.

I mainly work in porcelain or porcelain mixed clays, although on occasion I go back to stoneware. I love throwing and I am currently having a momentum wheel built so that I can do it in silence and without having to worry about the power I'm using.

At present I am using a Pottery Crafts top loading electric kiln which means I only fire in oxidation. I am also soon to convert a very old electric kiln to gas for Raku firing, a project that has taken some thinking about but should be ready for the summer.
